Privacy Policy

Last updated 2026-09-04

This policy explains what information OfficialCost ("we", "us") collects when you visit officialcost.com, how it is used, and the rights you have over it. OfficialCost is a static website: we do not require accounts, we do not operate login systems, and we do not store any information you enter into on-page calculators.

1. Information we collect

Information you provide

If you contact us (for example, to report a correction), we receive the information you choose to send — typically your email address and the content of your message. We use it only to respond and to act on the report.

Information collected automatically

Our hosting provider (Cloudflare) processes standard server logs — IP address, user agent, requested URL, referrer, and timestamp — for security, abuse prevention, and aggregate performance monitoring. These logs are retained for a limited period under Cloudflare's own retention policies and are not used to build individual profiles.

Calculators

Every calculator on this site runs entirely in your browser. Inputs are not transmitted to us or to any third party.

2. Cookies and advertising

We do not set first-party tracking cookies. Third parties may set cookies as described below.

Google AdSense. We may display advertisements served by Google. Google uses cookies (including the DoubleClick cookie) to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites, and may use device identifiers for the same purpose. You can opt out of personalized advertising at Google Ads Settings or at aboutads.info. For visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, ads are served in accordance with the IAB Transparency & Consent Framework, and a consent prompt is shown before any personalized ad cookie is set. Google's own handling of data is described at How Google uses information from sites that use its services.

Analytics. If privacy-preserving analytics are enabled (Cloudflare Web Analytics), they operate without cookies and without collecting personal data.

You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings; the site remains fully functional without them.

3. How we use information

  • To operate, secure, and improve the website.
  • To respond to messages and act on correction reports.
  • To display advertising that funds the site, subject to your consent choices where required.
  • To comply with legal obligations.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it with third parties except our hosting and advertising providers as described here, or when required by law.

4. Legal bases (GDPR)

Where the EU or UK General Data Protection Regulation applies, we process personal data on the following bases: legitimate interests (site security, abuse prevention, responding to correspondence); consent (personalized advertising cookies, which you may withdraw at any time through the consent prompt or your browser); and legal obligation where applicable.

5. Your rights

European Economic Area, United Kingdom, and Switzerland

You have the right to access, rectify, or erase personal data we hold about you; to restrict or object to processing; to data portability; and to withdraw consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your national supervisory authority.

California (CCPA/CPRA)

California residents have the right to know what personal information is collected, used, and disclosed; the right to delete personal information; the right to correct inaccurate information; the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information; and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We do not sell personal information. Third-party advertising cookies may constitute "sharing" for cross-context behavioral advertising under the CPRA; you can opt out via the links in section 2 or by enabling the Global Privacy Control signal in your browser, which we honor.

Other jurisdictions

Residents of Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, and other states or countries with privacy laws may have similar rights. Requests from any jurisdiction are handled the same way.

To exercise any right, email hello@officialcost.com with the subject line "Privacy request" or use the contact page. We will verify your request using the email address you write from and respond within the period required by the applicable law (30 days under GDPR, 45 days under CCPA, extendable where permitted).

6. Data retention

Correspondence is retained for as long as needed to resolve the matter and for a reasonable period afterward for record-keeping, then deleted. Hosting logs are retained under Cloudflare's standard retention windows.

7. International transfers

The site is served from Cloudflare's global edge network, and correspondence may be processed outside your country. Where GDPR applies, transfers rely on standard contractual clauses or equivalent safeguards maintained by our providers.

8. Children

The site is not directed at children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

9. Security

The site is served exclusively over HTTPS with security headers enabled. Because we hold almost no personal data, the exposure from any incident is minimal; we will nevertheless notify affected individuals and authorities where required by law.

10. Changes

We will post any changes to this policy on this page and update the "last updated" date above. Material changes will be highlighted on the homepage for a reasonable period.
